The remodelling of the market, according to the Abia State government, is to bring the market to international standards and ensure the safety of traders and their customers as well as open up Aba for more business opportunities.

Governor Alex Otti during the official flag of the reconstruction in August, said that original shop owners will not lose their shops after the remodelling exercise. Otti had assured the traders that the remodelling, which is a Public-Private Partnership, PPP project, will be done in phases to ensure that they are not displaced from business. But despite the assurance by the Governor, some aggrieved traders led by Chris Uruakpa approached an Aba State High Court presided by Justice C.
