The Premier and her husband are alleged to have accepted bribes to sway a construction tender.

Free State residents have expressed mixed views on corruption allegations against Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae, and her husband Lawrence Mathae, who is the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipal Speaker.

The two are alleged to have accepted bribes to sway the tender for a lucrative road construction project worth R269-million. In a leaked Whatsapp message that trended on social media, Patrick Phuti, CEO of a company called New Beginnings, alleges that the couple accepted bribes for his company to secure the road construction tender, only for Letsoha-Mathae to backtrack on her promise.“No, what I’m saying is that I cannot confirm whether the Premier or whoever is involved as the corruption issue or whatever because for now really for me, it’s a hearsay evidence.

Another laments, “As a Free State citizen I’m honestly disappointed by what happened with our Premier and everything, corruption and stuff. I’m so disappointed to the core.” Any cookies that may not be particularly necessary for the website to function and is used specifically to collect user personal data via analytics, ads, other embedded contents are termed as non-necessary cookies.
