A woman who is also a company director was charged at the Seremban Sessions Court today on two counts of using her company's building for money laundering activities last year. The accused, Cheong Yin Ying, 39, however, pleaded not guilty after both charges were read separately before Judge, Mohamad Kamil Nizam.
According to the charges, the accused had directly involved herself in transactions using the building and objects within the building in the Mantin Light Industrial Area owned by her company as tools of the offence to commit an illegal activity on December 15, 2023. Consequently, the accused committed a money laundering offence under Section 4(1)(a) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Act 613) which can be punishable under Section 4 (1) of the same Act. If found guilty, she may be imprisoned for a period not exceeding 15 years and may also be fined not less than five times the amount or proceeds from the illegal activity or the instrument of the offence at the time the offence was committed or RM5 million, whichever is higher. Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor, Natasha Chin offered bail of RM50,000 for each charge. Lawyer, Amirul Fairuzzeen Jamaluddin who represented the accused applied to the court to allow the accused's bail for the previous charges to be used for today's case. However, the court then allowed the accused to be released on bail of RM15,000 for both charges. The case is set for mention again on January 6th. Previously, media reported on December 5th last year, Yin Ying and her husband, James Ooi Joe Behn, 41, pleaded not guilty at the Seremban Sessions Court on 14 charges of receiving money from illegal activities amounting to more than RM3 million, from 2021 to 2023
