Security operatives in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, have identified an iron smelting company, Abuja Steel Company, as the alleged receivers of the stolen manhole sewage covers. DAILY POST reported on Sunday that some persons suspected of removing sewage manhole covers in the FCT were arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.

In an update on Monday, Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant, Public Communications and New Media to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, said a company buying the stolen items has been identified.

Olayinka said that the company is located along Abuja–Kaduna Road, stressing that exhibits of interest have been recovered from the company and are in the custody of the police. According to him, further investigations are ongoing to uncover the involvement of the company and others in the removal, purchase and melting of the manhole covers. He said the suspects arrested on Sunday are helping the security agencies with useful information about the buyers of the vandalized infrastructure.
