California, the birthplace of the American tech industry, is emerging as a great foe.
On Monday, the state legislature resumes and will consider a bill that, if passed, could classify drivers for ride-hailing companies like Uber Technologies Inc. and Lyft Inc. as employees, entitled to better wages and benefits.
Adios Uber and Lyft.
Interesting thought but would not apply to 100% of the driver population given many just do this part time and don’t do it with just for one service. 2nd order effect, drivers seeking benefits will choose the network they want to be with, reduce overall supply and increase prices
On companies that already cant make money
entitled?
And destroying the Uber/Lyft employment models. More intrusion by government. Bah!
I mean I wish this was something that was feasible considering a lot of the current drivers are taxi drivers that were pushed out of their jobs. I just don’t think Uber and Lyft are even capable of supporting this.
Uber hasn’t made money yet as a company. This certainly won’t help. They will be lucky to stay in business.
Uber business model cannot support employees Uber will close down in CA eliminating 100s of 1000s of drivers. Especially in light of Uber’s last quarter. Lawmakers ignorant to realities of capitalism
Not only government cannot create any productive jobs, it is good killing those that created by private sector. People take the job because they cannot find the better one. Think California.
Another socialist idea
Basically California is going to try to kill modern business models where people, who once were independent businessmen, are now forced to be employees... Thus once again proving how much democrats hate freedom.
Yours.
California wants your income tax, and your employers income tax, that's all there is to this bill
I think California should just bow out of these activities and leave this classification to be determined at the federal level and then it would be applicable to all states across the USA
The death of Uber
And there we go
A disaster... with all the expenses drivers incur this would be terrible.
Great!they just killed hundreds of thousands of jobs in that state.
Not a good idea. These companies will definitely change their terms to balance the sheets. More commission, less independence.
Uber lost $5.2 Billion last quarter, imagine what they’ll lose if a few states pass bills like this.
Oh, like taxi drivers?
Probleme sant in mare parte pt. Ca unii taximetriști încarcă nota altii ocolesc tocmai pt. A o încarcă ....
