University of Guelph’s grandstanding move is an insult to Canada and its critically important oil and automotive sectors

The University of Guelph’s grandstanding move to divest its endowment portfolio of fossil fuel stocks is an insult to Canada and its critically important oil and automotive sectors.

“For over 40 years, I have been an investor in business ventures including the oil businesses in my home city of Calgary and my family business, Canadian Tire Corp. My decision to resign as chancellor was prompted by the incompatibility of my business interests with the board of governors’ decision to divest from fossil fuel companies in its endowment portfolio,” she wrote in her resignation letter.

I called Seymour Schulich, a business success who is Canada’s largest donor to many universities, and his reaction was simply: “It is easier to find a unicorn than to find wisdom on a university board of governors.”Seymour Schulich These boards are often comprised of inappropriate placeholders, and a few have become patsies to a larger movement that scapegoats oil, cars and free enterprise in the climate change debate. Yet their opposition to oil and cars totally misses the mark.

Diane Francis: shortsighted “journalist” gives opinion that isn’t keeping with the times

Seems fair given that Diane Francis never misses an opportunity to show what a dimwitted oil industry shill she is.

Planet of the humans-everyone should watch it.

And no more refusals to Canada students to accommodate foreign students $$$$. Canadians first everyone else second.

the only way we're going to have bitumen and deep water production in Canada is through nationalization or the banks owning the production companies. The banks don't want to take another hit and if Canada is in the oil business we need to run it like Norway's and sock away the 💰

No problems invest we’re you like with your money, but no more subsidies. No more tax payers money . Make it on your own or don’t make it at all. Better yet could save billions yearly if stop all direct funding to all colleges and universities. Tuition alone

Let them all drop them and I can buy them cheap. I love the royalties.

There's nothing wrong with divesting for ethical reasons if you're consistent. If you divest from oil but allow Chinese propaganda elements to operate at your university and invest in Chinese products, you're supporting genocide and organ harvesting.
