HBO Max is removing 36 shows ahead of Discovery+ merger

. A handful of Cartoon Network shows are leaving.

In a statement, HBO Max said content would disappear from both services as it worked to bring the media libraries"together under one platform." The provider didn't elaborate on its reasoning, althoughnoted that pulling the shows outright would help HBO Max avoid paying more royalties. Warner Bros. Discovery said it would find $3 billion in savings as part of the corporate merger.

As you might imagine, at least some affected producers aren't happy — this not only cuts off income, but might prevent people from seeing their work unless it finds another home.

So which one is disappearing? HBO max or discovery? Im not sure how these 2 services can exist together, each are very different, why not keep the services seperate?

Removing content that already exists only makes sense if you’re trying to find a way to charge extra for it

All future headlines should refer to this streaming service as HBODiscovery - There is nothing Max or + in the approach they are currently taking.

With the heavy slant towards animated shows being removed, it makes you wonder if Discovery+ is trying to add another service (in this case it would be animation-focused) to make the bundling options more attractive.

Translation: Corporate bean counters are giving you less choice so they can pocket more of the money. As always happens with corporate mergers.

Corporate mergers only benefit executives & shareholders. Consumers, employees, creatives, all get the shaft. Market consolidation is making our lives worse.
