Dave Smith changed the history of music with the invention of MIDI and polyphonic synths, operating Sequential out of SF's North Beach neighborhood.

“[Digital circuitry] makes a very clinically repeatable sound. And your ear gets tired of that pretty quickly. … The analog circuits are very prone to changing with temperature and environmental factors, which makes them very hard to keep in tune,” said Gibbons. “We put a lot of time and energy into basic engineering the analog circuitry to really reproduce that analog sound, which has variances that you find organic and natural and appealing to listen to.
