The port workers’ union, meanwhile, released a report arguing that corporate greed is the real problem.

VANCOUVER — Canadian business has turned up the volume on calls to end the British Columbia port workers’ strike, with a potash producer in Saskatchewan stating that it has now curtailed production due to the labour dispute.

Pressure on other sectors of the economy has grown as the effects of the strike spread, say business leaders. The federation also started a campaign calling on businesses to send it stories of how the strike is affecting them. “I’m all about fair negotiations,” he added. “But when it’s affecting the economy, not just here in Ontario, but across the country, we need to get folks back to work … This is hurting the whole economy, right across the country.”

“We’re hearing that our producers are having to shut down and roll back their production,” Smith said. “We’re hearing that across the board — whether it’s in agriculture, whether it’s in oil, and this is going to have a huge impact on the supply chain.”
