The Coffee Carriage has become incredibly popular with locals and commuters

A sister’s advice inspired a coffee shop which has been flooded with customers since it opened last month.

“We’ve known each other for the best part of 12 years. We always used to say, this person’s doing this, this person’s doing that, while we’re the little man. Rory is originally from a remote part of Inverness. Growing up, the local railway station was far more than just a place where commuters passed through. Rory said: “The spot to go was the train station, which also had a shop. It was kind of normal to go to the station and have a coffee.” Everyone from the area would visit, even if they weren’t hopping onto a train.

This morphed into a second train-themed spot at Maghull station, under the name of the Coffee Carriage, which opened late last month. Rory said: “For this one, the name came about in relation to the train station. The design inside, with the rustic wood, old railway sleepers - that's the aesthetic we’ve gone with throughout the coffee business.“We wanted it to be for the community, not just for commuters to grab a coffee.

“It’s madness. We didn't believe we had the wind behind us. For Maghull, we’ve taken on five staff, aged between 16 and 52 years old. It's because of them and our friends saying we can do it, that we were like yes, we can do this.”
