'People went to her for advice and she was phenomenal. She was hard working and she lived for her family”

Tributes have been paid to a ‘phenomenal’ woman who worked at a family butcher’s market stall and ran a cafe.

The couple were friendly, familiar faces in Accrington and they also ran Peggy’s Café in Accrington Market for 20 years. Her daughter, Barbara, said: “She was mischievous and called a spade a spade."People went to her for advice and she was phenomenal. She was hard working and she lived for her family.”

Marjorie initially worked in a mill and then began working at the Co-Op in Clayton. Bob’s father, Joe Clegg ran Clegg’s Family’s Butchers stall in Accrington Market and Bob and Marjorie would exchange glances and smiles, until Bob asked her on a date and they got married in 1959.
