Already a subscriber?Few fund managers feel the weight of history quite like Jody Jonsson, the vice chairman of the $US2.5 trillion investment giant Capital Group.

Chanticleer speaks to plenty of fund managers, but rarely do they run strategies with this kind of history. What’s even more fascinating to consider is the way global business practices have changed over this period – from the high tariff walls of the 1970s, to the era of globalisation and back towards something that looks a lot like deglobalisation after the pandemic.Jonsson doesn’t think so.

“I do think companies were managing themselves for efficiency rather than resilience. And this is where COVID taught companies a lesson.”
