The insurance company has announced its first round of layoffs after letting go of nearly 1000 employees. This comes after the insurer, one of San Antonio's largest employers, laid off nearly 1000 people in 2023 after reporting nearly 1.3 billion dollars in losses over 2022.
“USAA continues to make necessary adjustments to run a healthy business and provide members with exceptional service and competitive prices,” said Rodger Wildermuth, Director of Public Relations for USAA. “After careful consideration, we made the difficult decision to eliminate approximately 220 roles.”
Despite these firings, USAA has emphasized its commitment to changing to meet the needs of consumers, highlighting that they have hired thousands of positions in the past year. “USAA continues to hire, including approximately 2,900 jobs filled so far this year, but this reprioritization is necessary due to changing business needs,” said Wildermuth. “Employees are treated with care and compassion and provided with assistance to find new roles inside and outside of the organization.”
USAA has not clarified which departments, if any, are specifically affected. How many of these positions were local or national has also not been verified.
