We’ve found the secret to long life – and this time, it’s not chocolate, whiskey, or a thimble of gin every afternoon at 3pm.Just ask Joan Ward, who is 90 but still gets up every morning at 6.30am to get to work on her market stall.Six days a week, she drives ten miles from her home in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, to get to her pitch – as she has done almost every morning for 67 years.Joan, come on, you deserve a lie-in and a cup of tea at this point.

Alongside her sister Pat, 79 – who runs a cafe in the market – and her daughter Katherine, 60, who runs a card shop, Joan has become a fixture of the popular venue.She has racked up over 165,000 hours at the stand She added: ‘I drive to work every morning, I collect the deliveries and I lift all of the 20 kilo sacks of potatoes.
