The official figures on how many people attended SailGP in Halifax on the weekend, and the event’s economic spinoff for the city, won’t be available for a few weeks, though it’s expected to be in the area of $14 million. The owner of Ambassatours said on Monday that total revenue for the weekend was $123.532.79, more than double the revenue generated on the same weekend in 2023, which was $60,543.55.
“All three were chartered out by SailGP for most of three days,” Campbell said. “A George’s Island was an addition, which was very welcome and tickets sold out quickly. Parks Canada was very good to co-operate to make that happen, and allow us to take people out there.” Campbell said it was great to see Halifax on the world stage, and hopes it’s true that SailGP will come back to the city at least twice, though next time he’d have shelters in place for anyone who goes to George’s Island.“We basically sold out over the weekend and had a very good food and beverage weekend,” said Bowie, who was able to sell rooms at a premium.
“What we were able to do because of the business from SailGP is to sell the remaining rooms at a premium, and know we were going to have a full hotel and a nice vibrant atmosphere,” he said.
