Eating Out In Nottingham

The restaurant will close on its 24th anniversary

Award-winning restaurant World Service is to close its doors for good after 24 years on Nottingham's food and drink scene. The owners have cited changes in the market for the decision, adding it's no longer easy to provide fine dining at an affordable cost.

When the east meets west fusion restaurant opened in 1990 it was a very different landscape. Business lunches were popular and diners could afford to eat out more often. Starters and desserts averaged a fiver and main courses were £8.50 to £13 on the à la carte menu. Two-course lunches started at £9.

"It is no longer easy to provide fine dining at an affordable cost. So, with great sadness, we have decided to close World Service, on its 24th birthday." World Service has won a string of accolades over the years, including New Bar of the Year from Flavour Magazine in 2002 and it was voted Nottingham's best restaurant for three successive years from 2002 to 2005 in the Nottingham Restaurant Awards. Recognition came from a recommendation in the Michelin Guide and the restaurant currently holds two AA rosettes for culinary excellence.
