TORONTO — Some of the most active companies traded Tuesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. . Energy. Up $1.02, or 2.21 per cent, to $47.27 on 22.1 million shares.

Ballard Power Systems Inc. . Industrials. Up 24 cents, or 6.84 per cent, to $3.75. Ballard Power Systems Inc. and Vertiv have signed a partnership deal focused on the use of hydrogen-powered fuel cell systems for backup power applications in data centres. Vertiv is a maker of power and cooling systems and other equipment used by data centres.

Steve Ballmer was hired as Bill Gates' assistant in 1980, became Microsoft CEO in 2000, and retired a decade ago with a hugely valuable 4% stake.The Canadian dollar edged higher against its U.S. counterpart on Monday as investors awaited further insight into the Bank of Canada's move to cut interest rates and after speculators raised their bearish bets on the currency to a record high level.
