Two men have been arrested and one man has appeared in court after a fight in Nottingham city centre. An altercation broke out between a group of people in Old Market Square in Nottingham City Centre at around 4.30am on Saturday, June 22.Police closed off the road, making it impassable on Saturday morning, before later appealing for the public's help with investigating the incident.
Dureece Smith, of Ransom Road in St Ann's, appeared at Nottingham Magistrates Court on Monday, June 24, charged with affray and possession of a knife in a public place. He was remanded in custody until his next appearance at Nottingham Crown Court on July 22. The 20-year-old man has since been bailed, after being arrested on suspicion of violent disorder, as investigations continue. The large cordon, which was reported to have spanned all the way from Market Square, past St. Peter's Square, to M&S on Albert Street, has since been removed.
Exchange Walk remained closed for much of Saturday, with shops unable to open. Forensic officers were seen at the site collecting evidence. Anyone who saw what happened or has any information that could assist police with their inquiries is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 106 of 22 June 2024, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
