The public broadcaster has extended its partnership for the next four years in an announcement made at the SABC’s headquarters this afternoon.
The new deal will include broadcasting all the SA national teams, the women’s Hollywood Bets League, grassroots and development level of football.SABC’s Group CEO Nomsa Chabeli explains, “SAFA and SABC have renewed their partnership which has been going for the past 32 years, allowing South Africans to be part of football. The partnership has been extended by another four years.
Head of SABC Sport Keletso Tothlanyo says they will also be broadcasting a weekly football magazine show that will focus on activities off the pitch. “We will have a weekly magazine where we will cover everything about SA football, the sponsorships, about their involvement, we will also cover grassroots football and will stream some of those matches in the regions and also live matches of all the national teams.”He further explained the issue of TV rights when it comes to the African governing body CAF and world’s football governing FIFA…
“At international levels there are matches organised by FIFA and CAF. Normally they will negotiate the rights and we tell them our preference is with the SABC, because of their ability to transmit to all South Africans. So international matches CAF and FIFA are not controlled by us but friendly matches are controlled by us.
