Police were outside the market for most of the morning

Police blocked off a city centre food market following a break in. Merseyside Polic e received a report on Tuesday, September 24 at around 5am that Safi’s Desserts, on Mount Pleasant , had been broken into and a cash box was stolen. Officers attended the scene and a 48-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of burglary. He was also arrested on suspicion of carrying out two other recent burglaries in the city centre. He remains in police custody and will be questioned.

Sergeant Craig Winstanley said: “We take all reports of business burglaries seriously and thanks to a fast response from officers, we were able to arrest a man and seize a cash box following a reported break-in this morning on Mount Pleasant. “Stealing from businesses is not victimless. It impacts people’s livelihoods and their incomes. I hope this arrest shows that we have a zero-tolerance approach to burglary in Merseyside.
