Three suspected extortionists have been shot and killed during a shootout with police on Bosmansdam Road in Bothasig, Cape Town.
Members of the Provincial Operational Command Centre’s Combat Team have wounded and arrested four others.Police say during a pursuit on Bosmansdam Road, the suspects opened fire on two police vehicles with an assault rifle. Police retaliated and managed to bring the vehicle to a halt on the corners of Bosmansdam and Wylands Roads.
The assault rifle, a 9mm pistol, an undisclosed amount of cash, as well as the minibus taxi have been confiscated.Meanwhile, in KwaZulu-Natal, four suspected extortionists have been arrested in Durban. Police say the suspects had attempted to disrupt work at a construction site in Sydenham and demanded money from the owner.
According to police the suspects allegedly harrassed workers at the site, prompting the company to call private security guards for assistance.
