Wilderness Seaplanes of Port Hardy says it owns a plane that crashed in Warner Bay on Monday where one man died.Operations manager Vince Crooks tells CHEK News the plane was making a seemingly normal landing in the bay when for some reason it flipped over.Loading the player...

“There were three people on board including the pilot. The pilot and one passenger escaped and worked heroically with the assistance of those on the scene to rescue the trapped passenger,” Crooks said in a statement. “Search and Rescue was on hand within an hour of the accident with a helicopter, and the Coast Guard responded with a rescue boat. Tragically they were unable to save one passenger, and he drowned.”“At this point we don’t know what caused the accident and it will of course be the subject of an investigation by the RCMP and the Transportation Safety Board,” Crooks added.

“We do know that the weather was not a factor and there was no indication of mechanical failure. It appears to be an accident during an otherwise normal landing on the water and further cause is not yet apparent.” The Transportation Safety Board confirms it is investigating but has not decided yet if it will go to the scene.Dean has been chasing news stories in different markets across Canada for over 26 years.
