SABC reporter Nkululeko Nyembezi who is at Mqhekezweni village says, “The situation is very bad here at Mqhekezweni. As we were heading towards the homestead where the five learners were allegedly raped, we heard women crying and jumping over the fence at another homestead here. That’s when we turned our car to this homestead, we found that a woman who is maybe in the mid-40s has been brutally killed, she was shot and killed.
Nyembzi adds: “Her lifeless body was lying on the ground, we don’t know what happened, but villagers now are gathering here. This place is not far from where Mama Nogcinile was brutally killed, allegedly by unknown assailants.”The Department of Social Development in the Eastern Cape says additional social workers and Thuthuzela Health Care Centre officials have been deployed to the Mqhekezweni area.
Spokesperson for the MEC of Social Development, Mphumzi Zuzile, says the victims and their families will receive assistance from various departments, including Health, Police and Social Development, as well as the National Prosecuting Authority to help them navigate the aftermath of these traumatic experiences.
