Mintek CEO Dr Molefi Motuku says the entity will soon release its study into the country’s mining sector. Mintek, or the Minerals Research and Development Institute of South Africa, is a national organisation that specializes in mineral research and technology.Speaking at the company’s 90-year celebration event, Motuku says he’s confident the study will receive the greenlight from cabinet for its rollout as it is critical for the country’s future in minerals.
The Mintek@90 conference is currently in full swing, showcasing a diverse array of exhibitors from various sectors. These entities are presenting innovative solutions and advancements that reflect the latest trends in mining, metallurgy, and technology.Motuku says: “We need to understand the challenges facing the mining sector and this study is important for us to understand those challenges, but most importantly, to understand opportunities to attract investment into the country.
Meanwhile, Minister of Minerals and Petroleum Gwede Mantashe echoed the sentiment that South Africa is positioning itself as a leading producer of minerals that supports the green economy.
