Facing challenges with a tiny tea room, Steph Inglis is pivoting to a bakery and takeaway model, determined to make the Bumbles Tea Room in Burton Joyce a success.

A tea room owner who has struggled to make the tiny café work is hoping to reinvent the business - and she's determined to make it a success. Steph Inglis said she's not giving up on her dream after taking over the Bumbles Tea Room in Burton Joyce. Steph, who also runs a thriving tea room with the same name in Epperstone, took over the Burton Joyce business in September. But with very limited seating inside, she said: 'I tried it as a café and it is way too small and it felt uncomfortable.

There are just 12 seats inside. I feel that due to the café being so small on the inside I have to rely on the outdoor space.' Earlier this month she closed the café in Main Street, posting a message that it wouldn't reopen until March 2025. She has been reconsidering the future of the business - even putting it up for sale - but after thinking it through she said she is determined to make it work. Steph said: 'I do have the business up for sale but it was one of my options. Since putting it on the market I have got more ideas for it. I have been thinking of opening it back up in the new year but as a bakery and a takeaway. 'I will be leaving two or three tables inside so people can still sit and have a catch-up and when the weather picks up in will be ten or 12 seats outside.' Steph is considering takeaway items such as cobs, sandwiches, soup and toasties. She added: 'I just really need to push this. Customers have told me the business has been a couple of failed cafes and it's hard to get it back to where we need to be but I'm determined to do this.
