The trucking company Connect Logistics, which was found responsible for the tragic crash on the Eastern Freeway in 2020 that killed four police officers, has been liquidated. The company is unable to pay a $2.3 million fine or $90,000 in legal costs due to the liquidation, as there were no assets to convert into cash.
The officers had stopped a speeding Porsche driven by Richard Pusey Senior Constable Kevin King, Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Constable Joshua Prestney and Constable Glen Humphris, who were killed in the crash. The liquidation of Connect Logistics was handled by Worrells principal liquidator Stephen Hundy, who confirmed that both the fine and legal costs are unlikely to be paid. Mr. Hundy stated that there are no assets or actions identified to recover funds. The company's financial position was further compromised in April 2023 when its insurer, Berkley Insurance, withdrew the indemnity under its insurance policy and demanded repayment of legal costs totalling just over $773,000
