might be mandating a return-to-the-officeThe share of posted jobs that pay more than $100,000 per year and offer remote work has reached 36%, according to high-paying careers site Ladders Inc. That's up from 18% at the end of 2021.
“This year, we’ve seen a massive influx of ‘return to work’ policies, creating discourse around the future of the office and work in general,” said CEO, in a press release announcing the findings. “What we’re seeing is a significant increase in remote jobs yearly and monthly, and there’s no sign of slowing down.”
And it's not surprising that the big coastal cities and job hubs have seen the most high-paying remote jobs, with San Francisco, New York City and Washington, D.C. leading the way, according to Ladders. Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Seattle also offered more remote high-paying jobs than other cities.
Data from the Census Bureau released in September backs up Ladders' estimates. The agency said that between 2019 and 2021 the number of people working primarily from home tripled from 5.7% to 17.9%, or about 27.6 million people. About 48% of workers in Washington, D.C. worked from home, while about 24% of those in Washington state and Maryland worked from home.
