Netflix co-founder Marc Randolph described in his autobiography how he and co-founder Reed Hastings had flirted with the idea of challenging Blockbuster Video with mail-order VHS cassettes, but it would have cost too much. They instead landed on a more cost-effective proposition: DVDs sold and rented online.
"Betting on DVDs was a risk," Randolph wrote in his book, "That Will Never Work: The Birth of Netflix and the Amazing Life of an Idea." He added: "But it might also be our way to finally crack that category."
Wait….that was still a thing?!
I thought Netflix 'the streaming service' went bankrupt and ceased to exist, and now informed that they still renting DVDs. WTH🤡
I didn't know they still did that. Thats some 2002 shit.
They had much better choices to rent on dvd than the 90% rubbish available to stream
I thought they ended this like 10-15 years ago lmao

Netflix Is Shutting Down Its DVD BusinessNetflix’s famous red envelopes are headed to the recycling bin of history. The company announced the shutdown of the DVD-by-mail business Tuesday ahead of its first-quarter 2023 earnings repo… They STILL had a DVD business? 😳 Always like their DVD service because it was the only place (After Netflix put Blockbuster out of business) where you could get any movie or TV show you wanted for $8 a month, but I cut it off when Covid started & never got it again - a shame cause there is no pace like that now. It was a good run. But once discs became a niche market and video disc rentals mostly shut down, it was only a matter of time. I enjoyed it in it's hey day, but once they started throttling new releases, it went downhill from there.
