Premier Jacinta Allan has announced details of an independent review into Victoria's construction industry, vowing to "eradicate the rotten culture" in parts of the sector.today that more than 20 members of the CFMEU have been stood down by the state branch following allegations the union has been infiltrated by criminal figures.

The review aims to find the gaps in the current powers of government agencies to be able to respond to allegations of criminal conduct in the construction industry.Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan reveals details of review into construction industry following CFMEU sackings. Greg Wilson, who has been a senior bureaucrat in government ranks for many years and worked in the Department of Justice and Regulation, will head the review.

In opting for a review, Allan said a Royal Commission into the CFMEU would take too long to get results. But the opposition claimed it was because those findings would be revealed around the time of the 2026 state election. "To claim that Jacinta Allan didn't know about what's going on and Victorian construction sites is like cigarette company executives in the '60s and '70s claiming that it didn't know cigarettes were dangerous," Liberal MP Evan Mulholland said.The interim report of the review will be handed to the government in August with the final report to be submitted by the end of November.
