Phil Donaldson has been disqualified or 11 years after applying in 2020 for £100,000 he wasn’t entitled to via the government scheme before transferring the cash into another account.

The former owner of Glasgow pubs The Luchador and Abandon Ship, who was exposed over missing staff pensions cash, has been banned from being a director after claiming dodgy Covid bounce back loans.

The scandal came to light in the week the firm had planned to open the Abandon Ship bar in London’s affluent Covent Garden.

“On June 15, 2020, two transfers amounting to £47,739.93 were made from Bank A to another account held by Macmerry, of which £39,500.05 represented BBL funds.“Mr Donaldson has failed to provide any information regarding the beneficiary of these transfers or how they were ultimately disbursed.”
