WGRUV Dance Company, South Africa’s newest contemporary ballet dance company, has announced its third season of 2024, which will feature ‘Trilogy of Notes – A Symphony of Dance’ at four theatres in Cape Town.WGRUV’s third season in 2024 will delight spectators with ‘Trilogy of Notes,’ a triple bill promising class, culture, and magnificent musical landscapes.
WGRUV’s ‘Trilogy of Notes’ will open on Thursday, October 17 in Cape Town at the Star Theatre, Homecoming Centre, with three dance performances, including two evening shows and a 3pm matinee on Saturday, October 19. The programme begins with a premiere of a restaging of ‘Vivace Motifs,’ choreographed by acclaimed American choreographer Jessica Lang. Lang’s work, known for its visual beauty and emotional depth, will set the tone for an evening of elegance and artistic expression.
The evening will culminate with an explosive performance by former Paul Taylor dancer and creator Michael Trusnovec, set in the 1950s. This unique piece will feature live guitarist Emmanuel Paul playing the bass notes! While dance magazine has compared Michael’s dance performance work to the ageless appeal of Fred Astaire, only a few works provide a look into this impact, as the WGRUV dancers mimic the fluid and smooth lines he models.
To add to the excitement, WGRUV is teaming with Joburg Ballet this season, with Marlon Sales joining the stage. Additionally, the group warmly announces its newest member, Ruan Galdino, whose talents will shine in this exceptional lineup with WGRUV’s brilliant and soulful dancers.‘Creating ‘Trilogy of Notes’ has been a labour of love, involving countless hours of dedication, creativity, and collaboration.
