Much Wenlock Town Council in England is looking to revive the position of Town Crier, a role that was phased out around 30 years ago. Inspired by the work of Shrewsbury's Town Crier, Martin Wood, they believe it will enhance their civic and public events.

A medieval market town wants to bring back its town crier – more than 30 years after the last one rang his last bell.Much Wenlock Town Council say they have been inspired to bring back the position,which was phased out around 30 years ago following the formation of Shropshire Council and the end of the former district and borough councils.

“The Town Crier for Shrewsbury, Martin Wood does an excellent job of promoting their town and I am sure whoever represents Much Wenlock will do the same. “The Town Council would like to bring it back to enhance Civic events where formal proclamations are made, as well as public events and town markets. It will add to the appeal of these events and it will also be a fun thing to have.”
