Ramaphosa also sends condolences and messages of support to all affected families

The Presidency says Ramaphosa has been monitoring the work done by various government departments to respond to the tragedy.

Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says, “The law enforcement agencies are attending to the matter and tests have been conducted. Those that have been concluded have shown the presence of an illegal substance.” “The President calls on law enforcement agencies to act with speed in bringing those involved in the utilisation of those banned substances that have taken two lives of the children to be dealt with within the context of the law and to be dealt with speedily. So that the families can find some closure when they see justice being carried out.”

Meanwhile, Magwenya says . “President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed his condolences to parents and families, recently lost children to poisoned foodborne fatalities. The President would like to extend a message of support to families who still have children that are dealing with illnesses arising from food products that have been consumed coming out of various spaza shops,” adds Magwenya.
