Donald Trump Jr.'s visit to Greenland and his interest in purchasing the territory for the United States has been met with a firm rejection from Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen responded to Donald Trump Jr.'s renewed interest in purchasing Greenland as a U.S. territory by stating, 'Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders.' Trump Jr. visited the Arctic island for a brief, private trip aboard the family's branded jet. In December, the former president had expressed interest in acquiring Greenland for 'purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World.

' Greenland, a territory of Denmark for centuries, has been moving towards greater autonomy with an active independence movement. While Greenland's government has stated 'Greenland is ours. We are not for sale and will never be for sale,' Frederiksen welcomed U.S. investment in the region. She emphasized the importance of U.S. influence in Greenland, particularly in contrast to Russia. Greenland's strategic location, with melting sea ice potentially opening new trade routes, has made it a point of interest for several countries, including the U.S., which already operates a military base there for missile detection
