Why can't we grow our own tobacco for personal use? People are allowed to make their own alcohol and we have seen the devastating effect it can lead to.

Why don’t they rather open up some pop up tobacconists and sell the product. Then donate the proceeds to worthy charities.

You guys shoulda sold it to Venezuela or something you coulda made more money.

When a product is taxed to a totally preposterous and unrealistic level, as tobacco is, the black market will flourish. auspol

We have a illicit trade because the ridiculous amount of tax! Excessive tax is theft

If you make tobacco more expensive than Cannabis, which it already is. There will be a huge black market developing as would be highly profitable.

Another gutter cleaned

The ATO needs to venture into Victoria and the Snowy foothills if its serious about stopping this illicit trade.

ATO got new powers.

Will they also fine the thousands of people who scavange butts from the streets at night? No tax $$ there either.

Pushing people further into poverty through virtue taxation

ATO? 😲 I thought that was Border Forces responsibility?
