Energy stocks have come under pressure as investor sentiment shifts, but Chevron Chairman and CEO Michael Worth said that the sector will turn a corner.

The company also raised its dividend by 8% and said it's buying back shares and reducing debt. Wirth said that in 2019 the company produced more oil than at any point in its 140 year history.

Amid this backdrop, Wirth said Chevron is focused on capital discipline, and that the company has sized its operations to compete across a range of oil prices. "It's clear that demand for air traffic, marine freight in and out of china is off considerably," Wirth said, before noting that "it's still early to say how this will play out as the news about the virus continues to evolve."

obviously -- oil is much worse than tobacco.

He’s right. It’s stupid.

A recent podcast episode got into this at some depth. Listen here (shameless plug)

Oh really? The CEO of Chevron doesn’t like the comparison? Will wonders never cease. Any other breaking news I need to know?

Sounds pretty appropriate to me

It's exactly right. It's poisoning earth and destroying quality of life. It's gone. Face it. Diversify. Like Shell. They're investing in wind farms. Like tobacco, you're done.

he is right -- their fuel exhaust leads to asthma and COPD exacerbations in millions of people, and have single handedly worsened the climate crises as opposed to tobacco. it is insulting to say they are the same.

the the hypocrite libs have made oil/ gas a scapegoat for climate change but have no problem jetring all over the world burning more carbon in one weekend than most do in a year

True, one harms the user and the other 7+ billion people.
