PETALING JAYA: Tourism industry players are advised not to hit the panic button in the wake of the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak even if the situation has adversely affected their turnover.

Former Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents president Tunku Datuk Seri Iskandar Tunku Abdullah said influenza kills more than 80,000 people annually even without the emergence of newly discovered viruses.

"They can take measures to cut costs, such as reducing salaries. But don't resort to retrenching workers or shutting down businesses," he said.
