Companies such as FirstEnergy and PG&E; are warning their customers about the dangers of metallic balloons on Valentine's Day.

Energy companies across the nation are warning their customers about the dangers of metallic balloons on Valentine’s Day.

The reason why metallic balloons are able to do this is because they have a silvery coating that’s a conductor for electricity, the company explained. In 2019, metallic balloons striking electric lines caused 376 power outages in PG&E’s service area, causing outages in more than 179,000 businesses and homes.
