Stocks reclaimed some ground Friday, with the Dow rising nearly 2,000 points, capping a chaotic week that included the worst one-day drop in decades

Stocks in the U.S. swung higher Friday, continuing a haywire period on Wall Street and avoiding one of the worst weeks in the stock market’s history.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average soared into the 4 p.m. trading close with a gain of about 1,980 points, or about 9.4%, to 23182, concluding a topsy-turvy session. The S&P 500 rose 9.2%, and the Nasdaq Composite jumped 9.3%.
