Shelves wiped clean, fights in the aisles, and sales through the roof. If there was one word to describe the last week across supermarkets, it would be 'unprecedented'.

Staff members quickly get to work cutting open packages and filling the stores' bare shelves with precious goods. It's the first shift for two employees, hired in the last week as supermarkets scramble to deal with increased demand caused by panic buying amid growing fear about the coronavirus pandemic.

"In simplistic terms, we've been asked to feed 50 million Australians a week versus 24 million, and that is just physically not possible."

Supermarkets have increased the number of trucks on the road and even opened pop up distribution centres to help facilitate the unrivalled demand.

Even if Australia went into a complete shut down we will still be able to get groceries. Some MSM are now reporting that, others prefer to go with the panic buy now before it is to late reporting. Maybe the AFP need to raid these irresponsible media outlets & shut them down?

Someone knocked my loaf of bread off out my trolley while I was getting something out the fridge. coles I havent bought dunny paper for 7 weeks but the wife is getting nervous as we hit a couple of rolls. Security guards will be needed in coming months no doubt
