Artists and arts organisations will be able to apply for a slice of $5 million in emergency funds to support their livelihoods and operations during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Australia Council has announced

However, to concentrate its resources, the Council has closed at least 12 investment programs that artists had been able to apply for – including career development grants, arts projects, Australia Council Fellowships, the Contemporary Music Touring Program and the Travel Fund for Literature. Contemporary arts advocate Esther Anatolitis, the executive director of the National Association for the Visual Arts, said the package was "very welcome news".
