A restaurant in South Carolina has been accused of reselling Costco pizzas at a 700% markup as 'gourmet Roman-style thin crust pizza'

Irene Jiang / Business Insider

A Post and Courier reporter followed Coquin owner Chip Grimalda and found frozen Costco pizza boxes in the dumpster outside of Coquin. But when Grimalda was asked about the pizza, he reportedly said, "I don't know what you're talking about. It's definitely not Costco, and that's all I have to say."There's nothing unusual about an $18 to $20 gourmet pizza from an upscale wine bar. But there's definitely something unusual about passing off a $2 to $2.

mentnelson how anyone believed a costco pizza was gourmet is mind boggling

Not pizza.

Yea I don’t know abt the regulation regarding this matter in the US but costco isn’t losing money tho...the restaurant buys from costco.

I dont see the issue here. Doesn't applebees sell you marked up microwave dinners with fancy names?

So? Capitalism.

In other news Gatorade is sold for $5 individually at gas stations and convenience stores across the country. Costco sells 24 Gatorade bottles for $24. That's a 500% markup in price.

Was the owner this dude? 👇

Pretty Cheesy

Much of restaurant food not worth it.

Capitalism

Costco pizza doesn't even slap like that

If consumers don't care, what's the problem?

Typical American capitalism. So what else is new?

I hear that they also charge more for wine in the restaurant than if you go to the liquor store.

Really sad what people will do

JessicaChasmar And people paid it!😂😂

stoolpresidente FrankieBorrelli sounds like you need to jontaffer this place and ShutItDown

hahahaha

That's a great idea! How is that any different than the Italian restaurant in my town selling me a plate of spaghetti for 10$? Spaghetti that costs about .50 a pound.

Sounds like an Apple's move.

They need to be punished severely.

Pizza Supreme resellers

Supreme resellers

stoolpresidente and the pizza crimes begin. Keep your head on a swivel.

It’s like people are trying to make it into hell. Don’t worry. There’s plenty of room for all of you down there. Don’t worry.

Not a shocker.
