There is a tremendous amount of anxiety when you go through crisis, and leaders have to embrace the fluidity of having to make quick, informed decisions based on the best available data, he added. Nevertheless, Carande described the novel coronavirus as "the perfect storm" with unique challenges that even the people who have previously experienced crises are unfamiliar with.
"I think more of the dialogue is what the curve of that recession is like and how long it's going to take for businesses to pick back up again," he said. "We have an economic perspective of what's going on, and we do believe that it's going to be recessionary. And I think it's going to happen globally."
"I think the contingency plan has to also be true to your long-term strategy, the values, and the goals of your organization," Carande told Business Insider. "When it starts to pick back up again, what would that look like?"
