How the hospitality industry is joining the fight against the coronavirus.

Army Corps of Engineers is planning to retrofit as many as 10,000 hotel rooms in New York City to create more hospital settings.

“This is an unprecedented time for the travel industry, and we’re seeing hotels and other sectors step up and pivot in response,” says Misty Belles, managing director at Virtuoso, the luxury travel network. “Properties are lending their resources for the greater good at a time when it’s needed most. While hotels cannot welcome their typical guests, they can now turn their hospitality to those being impacted by this crisis and in need of care.

Last week the hotel industry asked for a $150 billion bailout, with Chip Rogers, CEO of the American Hotels and Lodging Association, saying the economic fallout from the coronavirus“September 11th and the 2008 recession combined.” As the pandemic continues to disrupt American life as we know it, the future of hospitality remains unclear.
