Amid the crisis, writer Nelson Schwartz says rich Americans have better access to testing—as well as things like private transportation and second homes. 'People say we're all in it together. But to me, the pandemic has exposed these class differences.'

I write about a concierge doctor in San Francisco named Jordan Shlainand he has relationships with many, many doctors, ... one of whom is a doctor named Ethan Weiss, who's a cardiologist — a very experienced and skilled specialist who his specialty is preventing second heart attacks. [Dr. Weiss] normally has a waiting list of six months to get an appointment with him. But if you're a patient of Dr. Shlain's, you can get an appointment with Dr. Weiss in a matter of days or weeks.

At other airports, if you're an elite frequent flyer, you have a separate entrance to the terminal, you have a separate line, you board the plane separately. You really don't come into contact with ordinary fliers. And I think that kind of explains why flying can be such an assaultive experience, because for the normal passenger, that's what it is. Whereas for the elite who make up the bulk of revenues, it's an exercise in convenience. ...

But for instance, on Royal Caribbean, you have two restaurants — Windjammer and Coastal Kitchen — and they're next to each other. But Coastal Kitchen is reserved for [higher paying] guests and has frosted glass windows. But to get to get to Windjammer, you have to walk by Coastal Kitchen. So you kind of see what you can't enjoy. I would have thought that creates resentment or creates sort of like you're gonna have a Russian revolution on board one of these ships.

Hardly surprising, 'rich' people get things that 'poor' people don't. That's been going on since the beginning of civilization.

You get what you pay for

Wait so if I am to understand this riveting reporting if you have more resources your chances of living are improved.

Name them

So horribly wrong!

Duh.

45 loves to get sued Sue POTUS realDonaldTrump for withholding information to the American people. Get a class action physician lawsuit against the StableGenius who knows all the other stable genius cause his uncle who taught MIT forever but doesn't know his name pathetic

I kinda figured this existed, but holy smokes.

This isn't reporting. Name names. THAT'S reporting. Or are these same 'patients' contributors to NPR? In which case, THAT'S the story. Name the doctors. Name the 'patients.'

Royal pains.

*pretends to be shocked*

nprfreshair The pandemic has exposed these class differences? Where have you been?

What has changed? Money talks. Shite walks. Welcome to Shitesville

Get your head examined if you believe anything NPR has to say.

lourdesgnavarro What is the William Gibson quote? Something like: “The future’s already here. It’s just not evenly distributed.”

Gee... Bet he was at the top of hos class

In other news, water is wet! It hurts when you post things like this NPR. As someone who has been a listener for 30+ years it hurts to see such a low effort piece.

Start building the scaffolds like yesterday

Isn’t this like when the wildfires raged in CA and insurance companies hired private fire fighters.

Tell me another man in the United States that has a work ethic like realDonaldTrump !! Just one !!

Well, duh. They also have better shoes than me.

Really? Can you post something like this is in all seriousness? Rich are always privileged with everything.

Nelson Schwartz did it take the pandemic to expose class differences to you?

Comrade Bernie has 3 homes...

So, that’s life.

And? It’s a capitalistic society. Some people have more money than others.

Article seems to be geared to rich vs. middle...minorities are getting the SHIT kick out of them

Your now just realizing that npr?

Yes, exactly. The Covid-19 pandemic has unabashedly shined a spotlight on so many cultural and societal problems.

Interesting

Good to see you’re getting back to your class warfare normal.

Not only class differences but entitlement. A lot of people live in areas where there are simply more freedoms (significantly less population, open landscapes and mountain accessibility, or yes second homes or visitations). Kind of gross how the ego of the entitled has no filter.

“But to me, the pandemic has exposed these class differences”. Ah the luxury of not feeling / noticing those differences till there’s a pandemic.

Ehh. Yes.

Duh. It's not rocket science.

Which is why the rich should lead the reopening of the economy. They should drive the buses. Shake the hands. Serve the coffee. Make the drinks. Let them expose themselves to the virus first if it's safe.

Exposed nothing new. Come on, get real.

And it's only going to get worse after this recession/depression, unless we start taking measures to reign it in.

Everyone who says we are all in this together is still getting a paycheck.

Of course.
