Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-Francois Blanchet and Green parliamentary leader Elizabeth May both claim the oil price shock that has devastated Canada's oil patch in recent weeks should be the final sign that the industry cannot and should not be saved.

OTTAWA -- Alberta Premier Jason Kenney took direct aim Thursday at federal politicians who say the oil industry in Canada is dead and focus should shift to renewables in the future.

"So we don't send a string of insults to Quebecers, we send billions of dollars, we send solidarity, we send friendship, we send our sense of shared values and shared interest. We also send energy that fuels the Quebec economy, and most recently we also sent millions of masks and gloves and even 25 ventilators to help our fellow Canadians get through .

"What is important was to hear the prime minister rather generously in his remarks acknowledge the sector is an essential part of this transformation," said Hyder. He said the argument that oil is dead is simply "immature" rhetoric without any dose of reality. Canada's oil industry was hit in March by a double whammy -- the plummeting demand for oil as billions of people around the world stayed home to avoid COVID-19, and an oil price war between Saudi Arabia and Russia which saw the two continue to pump out more and more oil.

The right investments can take the Canadian product above and beyond as the greenest and cleanest produced in the world, which will make it more desirable.

Lol.. poor snowflake, he just refuses to see the writing on the wall

You gotta plan for the inevitable. If they planned for oil downturns when thier economy was still booming, they wouldn't be in the predicament they are now. Now we're telling them to plan for if oil gets worse than it is now by diversifyin, but they're still resisting. Oh well.

Boycott Quebec!!

Saudis, shell etc said for yrs they were getting off oil...tarsands weren't profitable for some time... and oil dropped out.. keep beating the dead horse keeping oil around. lmao yrs warning bubble ready to burst..cons as usual caught by surprise bc they never see the big picture

Cheap oil fine.

How about a referendum by the rest of Canada to remove Quebecois Tabernac!

stop kicking a dying industry and thinking it will rise

red neck alberta sorta kinda got civil the last few decades when people from other prov filtered down their BULLSHITE now most have gone back home and alberta is left with their red neck PUNKS

He is kicking himself if he doesn't turn Alberta towards renewable energy jobs asap. Oil is dead. My god get off the pm bashing and get some goddam vision! 😥

Finally!! jkenney you have to be more boisterous! I am telling you, threaten to have a referendum as to whether or not you should enter into sovereignty association talks with the feds!!

I want less talk and more action, jkenney Alberta_UCP . There is no other option. Time to leave
