In a new blueprint to transform the state's waste industry released today, fixing food waste is one of the keys to solving the ongoing crisis. "We think there is a massive opportunity in organic waste. Almost all of it can be recycled in some way," she said. The remainder comes from commercial and industrial operators, from restaurants to food processing factories. "What it does is allow us to capture about $1.2 billion in recyclable materials every single year," she said.Infrastructure Victoria's report says the state needs 87 new or upgraded facilities to deal with the growing waste stream — 52 of them in regional Victoria.
