JOHOR BARU: While couples are allowed to have their akad nikah (solemnisation ceremony) during the conditional movement control order (MCO) period, wedding makeup artists said they are struggling to finds customers.

Nur Amilyia Yusof Woo, 25, said she has had only one customer since the state allowed couples to have their solemnisation at their respective Kadi Offices.

“Those who had their akad nikah during the conditional MCO also preferred just light makeup as they needed to use a face mask anyway and did not require our services, ” she said.Makeup artist Abdul Hakim Azmi , 25, also said a lot of couples who initially planned to have their akad nikah during the conditional MCO, later changed their minds after learning about the restrictions.

He noted that the weeks leading up to Hari Raya Aidilfitri were usually a busy time for makeup artists as couples preferred to get hitched during this period.
