Those with more than 10 staff are most at risk

Almost one third of companies in the UK are preparing to lay-off staff and those with 10 or more workers are most at risk, a new report has shown.

It also demonstrated that those in bigger firms are more likely to be affected, with 41% of large or small and medium-sized companies making job cuts in the next quarter, compared to just 18% of mico-businesses.Only 25% of the companies polled were found to be looking to take on new hires during this period.

The threat of mass lay-offs comes as Boris Johnson is expected to unveil his new ‘containment framework’ on Friday, which aims to show employers and workers how the virus is being controlled in local areas.
