On July 8, Munroe unveiled a seven-step "advice" plane for the beauty world, so the change they've been promising for years can finally come to fruition and manifest in actual actions, via. “A lot of the issues I have spoken about throughout my career have been met with significant resistance and at times, international outrage," Munroe said in her letter.
Action steps on Munroe's plan include hiring Black talent, both behind and in front of the camera. Asking for Black voices to be included in all areas of production, from ideation to representation, Munroe wrote, "It’s simply not enough at this stage to offer us a seat at the table — it’s time to look at who else is sitting at that table already."
As part of the remaining six other steps, Munroe also asked for brands to "pass the mic" and continue donating to organizations and activists doing the work outside of the industry. “Whether it’s hiring a diverse workforce, launching a campaign around a social movement or making a charitable donation to a worthy course, put your money where your mouth is and lead by example,” she stated.
She continued encouraging brands to be accountable, saying that mistakes will inevitably be made but highlighting the importance of changed behavior. She asked for brands to not be performative with their actions and to continue making long-term commitments. Munroe cites Pride and Black History Month as examples, saying that it's important to support Black and LGBTQA+ voices all year around.
With this seven-step proposal, it looks like her work has already started. Aside from aiming to bring about much-needed change to the beauty world,
